Fifteen years ago I found myself living out my dream; I was recently promoted, running a large creative team, working on Billion dollar brands, and was among the top talent of a well known global agency. Instead of feeling elated I was lost. I felt dead inside.
When the EVP of our media agency asked me how I was doing, I broke down in tears. In a busy restaurant in downtown Chicago, I admitted that I didn't understand myself anymore. Fortunately, my colleague was empathic and knew what might help me figure out this new life stage. She gave me a lifeline, the name of her executive coach.
Working with a coach helped me to understand what was going on for me and take control over my situation. For years, I stuffed down my own needs in order to advance my career. I ignored the fact that world my
might look different after having a newborn and a toddler at home. Turns out, I wasn't leading myself well or my team.
